Join the Fun: Vonage Video API Mini-Hack from Dreamforce 2024!
Published on September 25, 2024

The Vonage Developer Relations Team just returned from Dreamforce 2024, which showcased the latest innovations and trends in Salesforce's customer relationship management (CRM) product. Each year, one of Dreamforce's signature events is mini hacks. Attendees compete to show their skills by completing coding challenges from companies and partners.

Our team was hanging out in the Mini-Hack area, helping folks complete our hack using our Vonage Video API. The goal was to build an app that mimics a real-world scenario in about 15-20 minutes. A typical example is the Telehealth industry, which needs real-time video/audio connections between patients and doctors.  Of course, it can be used by various industries, but this shows the power and simplicity of setting up Vonage Video API.

For those who couldn't attend this year's conference, don't worry! You can still enjoy the action and experience one of Dreamforce's most popular mini-hacks by pointing your browser to our GitHub Repo. In our mini-hack, you'll build and deploy a Video calling application that uses Vonage Video Web Components, which are a set of standardized APIs that allow developers to create reusable, encapsulated, and self-contained custom HTML elements to speed up development time.

We combined the min-hack with Vonage Cloud Runtime to make it as easy as possible. This eliminates the need to host and maintain your infrastructure to use the Vonage APIs, allowing developers to go into production faster (e.g., without setting up development environments, etc.).

Finally, we use Vonage Code Hub, which has pre-built solutions ready to be deployed to Vonage's serverless platform. Combine these with in-browser Visual Studio Code, and you have a workspace ready to go!

We designed the hack to be copied and pasted so people of all skill sets could succeed. Once you have completed the mini-hack, you should see your video feed and audio. Here’s a shot that I recorded in my home office.
