MWC 2025: Network API Demos, Talks, and Real-World Integrations

Published on March 27, 2025

That’s a wrap! The Mobile World Congress is over, and we are still recovering from our time in Barcelona. What a fantastic experience!

We had the chance to represent both Vonage and Ericsson, engaging with industry leaders and developers to talk about the power of the Network APIs. And yes, we brought some pretty cool demos to show just how powerful these APIs can be!

Wondering what we got up to during the week? Keep reading!

Network APIs Demos

Network APIs made a bigger splash than ever this year. They were front and center at the Ericsson booth, with interactive demos, videos, and tons of useful info for visitors to explore.

Medical Vault

My favorite demo was the Medical Vault. A super cool use case showing how Network APIs can secure access using just a mobile device as the key. The vault would only open if several security checks were passed: no SIM swap detected, the app was verified via the Number Verification API, the user was physically in Barcelona (thanks to the Device Location Verification API), and, to top it off, we confirmed the user was a real human with Amazon Rekognition.

And that was just the beginning. Even more demos were featured across both the public and private areas of the Ericsson booth, showing the real power of Network APIs in action:

Emergency Response Use Case

Demonstrating how Device Location APIs and Quality on Demand (QoD) can support critical situations, like helping emergency vehicles reach their destination faster and with the right resources.

On-site Vehicle Monitoring

Showcasing how companies can track vehicles within their facilities in real-time, enabling them to respond immediately if something unexpected happens.

Vonage, Cabify, and Number Verification API Integration

One important highlight at MWC was the presentation on the Number Verification API integration in the Cabify app, a ride-hailing app that connects users with private drivers in cities in Spain and Latin America.

This collaboration between Telefónica, Vonage, and Cabify marked a significant milestone in showcasing real-world use cases for Network APIs. Using the Number Verification API as a 2FA method, Cabify improved the user experience by reducing the time it takes to log in and order a ride by 45%, from 31 to 18 seconds. That’s awesome!

Two dedicated sessions highlighted this integration:

  • The first took place at the Telefónica booth, focusing on the solution's business impact and operational benefits.

  • The second was a more technical deep dive at the Talent Arena, where Laura Lacarra (Head of DevRel at Telefónica) and Pablo Villot (Principal Software Engineer at Cabify) walked us through the implementation details.

It was great to hear first-hand how our APIs and SDKs delivered a smooth developer experience during the integration process within the Cabify mobile app.

Network APIs Talks

MWC hosts a parallel event called Talent Arena, dedicated to developers with technical talks. I had the chance to be on stage not just once but twice:

A Trivia Game Demo with Vonage APIs

Along with my colleague Rachel Sunderland. This session was an interactive and engaging experience, showcasing a trivia game built using Vonage Communication APIs (Voice API, SMS API…). Attendees could see first-hand how easy integrating APIs into fun and useful applications is.

No More Post-its: Boosting Your Security with APIs.

This talk focused on enhancing the security of your login mechanism using APIs, addressing common authentication challenges like 2FA or SIM Swap, and demonstrating practical solutions. The turnout exceeded expectations, with 250 people in the audience, making it a great success! I’ve uploaded the slides to my Speakerdeck profile in case you want to read them again.

Recap

MWC Barcelona 2025 was an intense but unforgettable experience, full of great conversations, hands-on demos, and interesting connections with people from all corners of the tech and telecom world. The energy around Network APIs was truly inspiring, and it was a privilege to be part of the movement that’s reshaping how we think about authentication and security.

From showcasing real-world use cases to hearing direct feedback from developers, customers, and partners, the event reinforced just how powerful and relevant these technologies are becoming.

Looking forward to the MWC 2026!
