Introducing the Vonage Protection Suite for Okta

Introduction

The Vonage Protection Suite for Okta is a self-service, plug-and-play connector on Vonage Cloud Runtime (VCR) Marketplace that eliminates custom middleware, connecting Vonage products with Okta for intelligent One-Time Passwords (OTPs) delivery.

Product Overview

The Vonage Protection Suite for Okta integrates Vonage's OTP delivery and fraud intelligence capabilities directly into your Okta Identity Engine. It intercepts Okta's Telephony Inline Hooks to deliver OTPs via SMS or Voice through Vonage Verify, with automatic channel fallback, intelligent routing across 200+ countries, and built-in fraud protection.

Before any OTP is delivered, the connector can run optional pre-delivery security checks through Identity Insights, including number format validation, original carrier lookup, and current carrier detection, screening destination numbers against mobile operator databases to flag or block compromised numbers before delivery. During delivery, Vonage Fraud Defender provides SMS pumping protection, geographic permissions, and velocity controls at no additional cost.

Architecture Overview and Set Up

The following diagram shows how the connector sits between Okta and Vonage Verify. The connector is between the Okta Identity Engine and Vonage’s Communication APIs, intercepting Okta’s Telephony Inline Hook to orchestrate OTP delivery. Okta remains the verification authority throughout the flow, it generates the OTP, passes it to the connector, and validates it when the user enters it.
