Announcing v2.32.0 of the Vonage Video API

Introduction

We are excited to announce the November 2025 release of the Vonage Video API, version 2.32.0. This update introduces powerful new monitoring capabilities and gives developers finer-grained control over video quality across our Web, Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows SDKs. This release also includes a significant number of stability and performance fixes, especially for our Web and iOS clients.

Web SDK (OpenTok.js v2.32.0)

Our OpenTok.js library receives several key new features in this version.

Sender Bandwidth Insights

We are introducing new methods to monitor a sender's network statistics during video sessions. While subscribers can observe the bitrate of the stream they receive, they typically lack visibility into their total downlink capacity. The Sender-Side Statistics API addresses this limitation by providing metrics that help subscribers assess the available bandwidth it has to receive media and optimize stream quality.

More Added Controls

We have also added support for configuring preferred video codecs for publishers, allowing for more direct control over session negotiation. Furthermore, this release adds official support for WebViews in Android (android.webkit.WebView) and iOS (wkwebview).

Stability and Predictability Bug Fixing

This version also includes a wide range of fixes to improve the stability and predictability of video sessions. We resolved an issue where videoDisabled events could sometimes include incorrect values in the reason property, and we fixed a visual glitch where removing a background image (used when video is unavailable) did not restore the widget to its original appearance.

Single Peer Connection Improvements

Several important fixes have been implemented for Single Peer Connection, addressing a problem that prevented it from functioning in Chrome 140 or newer, as well as cases where subscribers were unable to connect. We also resolved issues where subscribers would not receive video when adaptive media routing was in use, and where logging of call quality change events failed. Finally, this release corrects conditions where publishers and subscribers were unable to connect after an automatic session migration, as well as other cases where publishers were unable to publish.

Native SDKs (Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows)

Our native SDKs for Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows all gain two powerful new features in the 2.32.0 release.

Sender Bandwidth Insights

First, all platforms now include new methods to monitor the network statistics of a sender (beta). As with our Web SDK, this gives receivers critical insight into a sender's available bandwidth and connection performance.

Preferred Codec Suggestions

Second, all native SDKs now support new methods to preferred video codecs for publishers. This feature gives you fine-grained control over how video codecs are prioritized during the session negotiation process, helping you optimize for quality or compatibility based on your needs.

iOS-Specific Fixes

In addition to the features above, the iOS SDK includes two platform-specific fixes. We have resolved a potential memory leak that could occur when using the OTPublisherKit.videoTransformers property to apply video transformers, such as those used in the Vonage Media Library integration. We also fixed an issue where a publisher's video could display with the wrong orientation on iPad devices when resizing the app window on iPadOS 26.
