What are Network APIs ?

Vonage Network APIs offer new functionalities from the Network Operators, also known as Communications Service Providers (CSPs,) beyond traditional SMS and voice services. By using mobile networks, including 5G, these APIs give developers access to advanced network capabilities.

What Is a SIM Swap Attack, and How Can You Prevent It?

I'll show the Vonage SIM Swap API checks phone numbers for SIM card irregularities in real-time and its use in fraud prevention.

The Vonage SIM Swap API is a powerful API designed to mitigate the risks of SIM swap fraud. By communicating directly with network operators (Communication Service Providers (CSPs), the API can detect if a user’s phone number has been recently linked to a new SIM card.

Detect SIM Swap Attacks with Vonage API 

In this tutorial, I showcase how to use the Vonage SIM Swap API to strengthen the security of a typical web app login by detecting potential SIM swap fraud. SIM swap fraud is a severe security risk that allows attackers to hijack phone numbers and bypass two-factor authentication (2FA) to access sensitive accounts. The Vonage SIM Swap API works directly with mobile carriers to detect recent SIM card changes and block unauthorized logins.

You’ll learn how to detect whether your users have been victims of a SIM swap attack by using the Vonage SIM Swap API. 

Getting Started with the Vonage Network APIs Playground 

Pre-registration and approval from our Communication Service Provider (or CSP) partners are needed before accessing Network APIs from your application. However, Vonage has a Network APIs Playground, a secure environment that allows developers to try them out while you wait for approval. It offers an immediate, secure, and compliant way to explore and experiment with our Network APIs.

Future of Network APIs and 5G 

In this video, I discuss the future implications of Network APIs with the advancement of 5G technology, exploring potential new features and the impact on developers and consumers.

5G unlocks a world of possibilities, offering scalability, high speed, low latency, and improved efficiency. However, what’s often overlooked is its ability to enable mobile network providers to expose new network capabilities.
