Introduction

We are excited to announce the release of version 1.3.0 for the Vonage Reference App for React, our open-source project designed to help you build and scale feature-rich video applications. This latest update introduces significant enhancements focused on user experience, professional polish, and backend customization.

The Releases

This release delivers two powerful features for tailoring the user experience.

Configuration, Filter, and Effects

First is the highly requested Background Replacement and Effects. Users can now maintain privacy or professionalism during sessions by selecting an adjustable background blur or choosing from predefined or custom background images. Alongside this, we’ve introduced additional configuration options. A new configuration file gives developers and administrators easy control over the application's UI, allowing you to toggle feature visibility, such as screen sharing, directly from settings.

Accessibility

We've also focused on making the app more accessible and intuitive for global teams. A new built-in Language Selector brings localization to the forefront, allowing users to instantly switch between available languages, including English, Spanish, and Italian. For better collaboration, we've enhanced screen sharing with Scroll and Zoom functionality. This allows participants to zoom in and navigate within a shared screen, making it much easier to examine detailed diagrams or read small text.

Stabilization and Bug Fixing

Finally, a key focus of this release was stabilization and bug fixing to improve the core experience. We have resolved several important issues, including a "ghost participant" bug where a user could remain in a call unseen by others. We also fixed an issue where the camera LED would stay on after a video stream was unpublished and ensured the publisher's muted icon displays correctly. These fixes contribute to a more stable and reliable platform for all users.

Conclusion

These updates make the Vonage Video Reference App for React a more flexible, stable, and globally accessible foundation for your video projects.

We encourage you to explore the new release and check out the code. You can find the complete project and detailed notes at theVonage Video Reference App for React App GitHub repository.
