Fraud Defender Dashboard

Vonage Fraud Defender is a user-friendly fraud detection and blocking solution that delivers real-time monitoring, alerting, and notifications to stop fraud in its tracks at no additional cost. Customer-specific controls enable you to create custom rules to manage automated actions when fraud is detected.

Access Fraud Defender

  1. Navigate to Fraud Defender.
  2. The Fraud Defender homepage displays your recent alerts and available protections.

Understanding Your Fraud Defender Plan

Fraud Defender offers three tiers of protection:

  • Standard (Included free) - Traffic Rules and Volumetric Changes
  • Advanced (Upgrade required) - Adds AIT Protection and SMS Burst Protection
  • Premium (Upgrade required) - Adds Custom Fraud Alerts and Trusted Numbers

Your current plan is displayed at the top of the page. Click Request Upgrade to access Advanced or Premium features.

Fraud Defender Dashboard Overview

The Fraud Defender dashboard is organized into two main sections:

Recent Alerts

View the three most recent fraud alerts generated by your protections.

Actions you can take:

  • Manage alerts - View all historical alerts and their status
  • Set up alert actions - Configure how you want to be notified (email, webhook) and whether to automatically block traffic

Configure the fraud prevention tools available on your account. Protections are organized by tier (Standard, Advanced, Premium).

Standard

Traffic Rules

Block or allow traffic to specific countries, networks, or prefixes using flexible, layered rules.

What you can do:

  • Create BLOCK rules for high-risk destinations
  • Create ALLOW rules to permit specific traffic
  • View active rules (e.g., "73 active traffic rules, 73 blocked, 0 allowed")

Common use case: Block all countries you don't do business with to prevent international fraud.

Volumetric Changes

Get fraud alerts when the algorithm detects an abnormal traffic increase for a certain country. No setup required—alerts are generated automatically.

What you can do:

  • Receive alerts when traffic spikes unexpectedly
  • Set up alert actions to get notified by email or webhook
  • Optionally auto-block traffic when alerts trigger

Important: Minimum traffic volume per country is required. Countries with less than 1,000 SMS/Calls in the last 12 hours won't generate Volumetric Alerts.

Advanced (Upgrade Required)

AIT Protection

Guards against artificial inflation of traffic from fraudsters using AI-powered detection to automatically block suspicious destinations.

What you can do:

  • Choose protection level (None, Standard, Advanced)
  • Automatically block SMS going to potentially fraudulent destinations
  • Receive alerts when potential fraud is detected but not blocked

SMS Burst Protection

Enable per-country throttling limits for your SMS traffic to protect against sudden traffic bursts and limit exposure during attacks.

What you can do:

  • Set maximum SMS volume per time period
  • Automatically reject traffic above your defined limits
  • Mitigate the impact of AIT attacks

Premium (Upgrade Required)

Custom Fraud Alerts

Embeds Number Insight intelligence directly into your existing SMS workflow to identify fraudulent numbers and blocks them based on your preferred threshold.

What you can do:

  • Define custom traffic limits for different time intervals
  • Set country-specific spending caps
  • Automatically block traffic when thresholds are reached
  • Control spend per country

Trusted Numbers

Prevent blocks to legitimate traffic by flagging numbers you trust. Trusted numbers won't be blocked by any Fraud Defender protections (Traffic Rules, AIT Protection, SMS Burst Protection).

Which Protection Should I Use?

For all accounts (Start here):

  1. Traffic Rules - Block all countries you don't do business with
  2. Volumetric Changes - Enable alert actions to get notified of spikes

For high-volume senders: 3. AIT Protection - Automatically block fraudulent destinations 4. SMS Burst Protection - Cap maximum traffic to limit exposure

For advanced control: 5. Custom Fraud Alerts - Define spending limits per country 6. Trusted Numbers - Prevent false positives for known good numbers

Managing API Keys

Important: If you manage several API keys, you'll need to set up Fraud Defender for each API key separately.

Switch between API keys using the Account dropdown in the top-left of the Dashboard.
